SHERIFFS OFFICE
SHERIFF'S DEPUTY
Performs activities related to the enforcement of state laws, investigation of crimes, patrol of the county, service to courts, administrative tasks and the handling of prisoners. Provides assistance to distressed motorists, ferrets out crime, responds to calls for service and reported crimes. Uses extensive communications skills (verbal and written) to gather information, resolve ongoing conflicts between parties, calm emotionally distraught or suicidal people, elicit confessions from suspects and write accurate statements and reports. Prepares files for court. Testifies in criminal and civil court as needed. Executes arrest warrants, search warrants, writs of arrests, various court orders and other legal process. Operates agency vehicles in all weather conditions and around the clock as well as at high speed or other emergency conditions. Transports inmates to hearings, trials, and medical appointments as needed. Develop and maintain required proficiency with authorized weapons, certification in chemical weapons, DUI testing and other required skills. Maintain knowledge of criminal laws, standards concerning the use of deadly and non-deadly force. Learn and apply agency policy and procedures to make appropriate judgments to perform necessary tasks. Maintain mandatory physical fitness standards required for running, engaging in strenuous physical activity, sustained aerobic activity necessary for crawling, wrestling, climbing and subduing suspects.
Must have valid drivers license and be at least 21 years of age to be hired.
CORRECTIONS OFFICER
Under general supervision provides for lawful custody and release of inmates through supervision and management of pre-trial information to ensure the safety and security of both the facility and the community. Ensures the public safety by providing for the custody, control, care and maintenance of inmates sentenced and held in the county jail. Responsible for entering all booking information to include updating of inmate records. Must have valid drivers license.
DISPATCHER
Under general supervision uses radio equipment to communicates with and dispatch patrol units to requests for service, incidents or emergencies. Answers phone calls and gathers information from victims, maintains communication with hysterical or suicidal callers until deputies arrive on the scene. Creates records, receives and responds to requests for information. Enters and retrieves information from the state computer system which houses information concerning tags, registrations, vehicle registrations, tax assessments, and previous inmate records. Enters and retrieves information from PCI Base for requests for service, incidents, arrests, warrants, pistol permits civil papers, pawn tickets, current and past inmate information, and a master name index. Enters and retrieves information from NCIC database which stores all criminal histories, drivers histories, tag information, missing persons, wanted persons, missing or stolen articles. Serves as a dispatcher for Hobson city and Ohatchee Police Departments and maintains required records for those departments. Operates office equipment such as typewriters, faxes, and computers. Communicates with other Law Enforcement agencies by telephone, radio and Teletype.
ADMINISTRATION BUILDING
DATA ENTRY OPERATOR (THERE IS ONE TEST AND ONE APPLICATION FOR ALL THREE OF THESE)
CAR TAG OFFICE
Performs all activities necessary to register motor vehicles. Verifies prior vehicle registration, completes necessary procedures for registration of new vehicles or vehicles purchased out of state. Processes requests for special plates and handicap decals. Determines money due from fees, penalties, sales tax, and citations. Collects correct amount, verifies, checks, and issues receipts upon request. Files all required records of transactions. Issues tags and/or decals as appropriate. Enters all necessary information into computer. Accounts for all funds collected each day.
REVENUE COMMISSIONERS OFFICE
Accepts payments from taxpayers for property taxes, personal business taxes, and forestry taxes. Assists with mail service and other routine clerical operations of the department. Posts mail and office payments and mortgage company payments. Updated mortgage company files. Using computer, researches inquiries for taxpayers and responds to telephone inquiries.
COUNTY COMMISSION OFFICE
Types correspondence and reports from rough drafts. Receives and sorts incoming mail for Administration Building and routes to appropriate departments. Processes outgoing mail. Compiles and maintains monthly postage reports. Consolidates documents and maintains files on claims, lawsuits, accident/incident reports. Answers phone and routes calls to appropriate persons or departments, takes messages, gives assistance to office visitors. Performs accounting and other tasks relative to check preparation. Prepares and processes requisitions, invoices, and purchase orders. Compiles Financial Audit Trail Reports for department. Reconciles bank statements, assists in processing new employees. Processes fire hydrant applications.
ACCOUNT CLERK I
Under general supervision, performs a variety of fund accounting and clerical tasks. Processes purchase requisitions and assure compliance with appropriate bid procedures. Checks for adequate funding by budget line item. Requests budget adjustments from departments if funds are not adequate. Routes purchase requisitions for approvals. Issues purchase orders and distributes. Issues checks to vendors for goods and services supplied to county offices. Revises all county budgets as department or accounting supervisors request adjustments. Tracks and disperses lodging tax revenue. Serves as backup for writing cash receipts. Maintains cash receipts and document file. Maintains title books and recalls information and orders tags for county.
HIGHWAY DEPARTMENT
LABORER
Does a variety of labor tasks and operates variety of light construction equipment. Drives pick up and light truck to deliver construction materials to job site. Operates tractor to mow right-of-way. Performs pre-operation maintenance vehicle check for proper oil and fluid levels and proper function of all safety equipment. Utilizes a variety of hand tools and power tools to patch roadway and clear right-of-way.
EQUIPMENT OPERATOR 1
Operates variety of light construction equipment. Drives truck to deliver construction materials to job site. Operates tractor to mow right-of-way. Pulls compacting or roadway sweeping equipment in preparation for paving or repair activities. Performs pre-operation maintenance vehicle check for proper oil and fluid levels and proper function of all safety equipment. Utilizes a variety of hand tools and power tools to patch roadway and clear right-of-way.
MUST HAVE CLASS B OR BETTER CDL (WITH TANKER ENDORSEMENT)
MECHANIC
Diagnoses and repairs heavy equipment and vehicles. Repairs engines, transmissions, differentials, and all major and minor components. Performs preventive maintenance on equipment and vehicles as required. Operates equipment to tow disabled vehicles to shop for repair. Transports heavy equipment throughout county.
MUST HAVE CLASS B OR BETTER CDL (WITH TANKER ENDORSEMENT)
CIVIL ENGINEER TECHNICIAN 1
Performs engineering and right-of-way surveys for new construction or reconstruction of county roads and bridges. Produces drawings showing cuts, fills, curves, bridges and drainage. Negotiates right-of-way with property owners. Inspects bridges for conformance to federal and state requirements. Serves as project engineer on construction and resurfacing projects. Coordinates the work of highway department and contractors.
MUST HAVE CIVIL ENGINEERING DEGREE OR PREVIOUS WORK EXPERIENCE.
