Rainbow Drive Bridge replacement has been over a year in developing although the actual construction time was much shorter. The project was spear-headed by Commissioner Downing with his desire to keep a beautiful serene setting as ascetically pleasing as possible with emphasis on safety and functionality. In May 2009, U.S. Bridge was awarded the design and construction of the truss bridge structure. The installation and construction of the bridge was awarded to Southeast Construction in September 2009. Work began on October 19, 2009. The project was excepted 121 days later on February 17, 2010.
